Purpose
The Library Presenter Directory has been created by The Rhode Island Office of Library and Information Services (OLIS) to facilitate connections between Rhode Island libraries and program presenters. It is a clearinghouse for information about program presenters, as submitted by those presenters, for the use of Rhode Island libraries.
Registration
All users (library staff and presenters) must create a user profile and password to use the directory. OLIS reserves the right to remove the account of any user who willfully misuses the directory or posts inappropriate content. Registration is limited to library staff and presenters who are interested in presenting at libraries in Rhode Island.
Once registered, all users will have a site-level account and will be able to search (library staff) or post (presenters) to the directory.
Please add olis.lpd@lorinet.info to your contact list so that site correspondence is not marked as spam.
Searchers
The directory includes information about programs for children, teens, adults, or mixed audiences. Library staff may use the directory to search for program presenters by keyword, audience, type, price range or language. Search results will include links to presenters who meet the criteria selected. All presenter information is self-submitted and libraries should perform due diligence in vetting presenters for library programs, including background checks. Presenter listings may include references for past presentations at libraries and schools. All listings include a last updated date.
Presenters
Presenters must create a listing to be included in the directory. All listings will be reviewed by OLIS staff before they are included in the directory. Inclusion in the directory does not constitute endorsement of services, and content is not reviewed or vetted for accuracy. Once the listing is approved for inclusion, the presenter will receive a confirmation email with a link to their listing, and that listing will appear in the directory and become visible in search results. Please add olis.lpd@lorinet.info to your contact list so that site correspondence is not marked as spam.
Presenters must fill out all required fields in the listing form. Descriptions should be concise but include enough detail to enable library staff to assess how well the program may match their programming needs. Please carefully consider the program type and the audience (age group, size) for your presentation. Do not exceed three program type descriptors.
Presenters who have multiple offerings should create separate listings for each significantly different offering, such as a children’s storytime and an adult writing workshop. Alternatively, similar offerings that can be described using a single title such as a historical discussion series can be listed together. The system allows presenters to use the same name and/or email address for each of their listings.
All presenters must:
- Certify that they agree to the terms of usage for this site and that they are at least eighteen years old.
- Acknowledge that they are hired directly by individual libraries, not the Office of Library and Information Services. Individual libraries may ask presenters to provide:
- Current background check (BCI), available through the RI Attorney General’s Office
- Federal W9 tax form (Request for Taxpayer Identification Number)
Presenter Fees
Fees listed should be effective for the entire state of Rhode Island (including Block Island), unless otherwise noted in Group Rates and Additional Fees.
Presenters who are willing to offer discounts for multiple bookings may note this in the form. Block booking is coordinated by libraries and enables presenters to book multiple presentations while providing libraries with a discount. Be sure to enter a price range, your specific price, whether you will provide discounts for block booking, and what the rates are for block bookings. Feel free to include multiple group discounts, e.g., one price for 2-4 bookings, another for 5-8, etc. in the Group Rates and Additional Fees. By providing this specific information, libraries may more easily locate presenters who fit their budgets.
Editing a Program Listing
Presenters who wish to edit an existing listing must do so through the Update Listing page. To update a listing, presenters must have the following information about their listing:
- Email used to create the listing
- Listing ID
In order to find the Listing ID, search for the listing in the directory and click on the link in the search results. This will open the detailed version of the listing. The Listing ID can be located at the bottom of this page under Record Info.
Reporting Inaccurate Information
Library staff may notify OLIS if there is an issue with any listing in the Library Presenters Directory.
Presenters must update their information as noted above; OLIS staff will not edit or update presenter listings. OLIS reserves the right to remove without notice any presenter listing that is reported as inaccurate or misleading.
